Nisar Memon again clarifies his remarks
on COAS
NEW
YORK, Sept 11 (APP)- Federal Information and Media Development Minister,
Nisar A. Memon here Wednesday clarified that the President will
relinquish the charge of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) "only
when he appoints a new COAS, for which no time frame has yet been
laid out."
He said this when asked to comment on a report appearing in a section
of the press relating to attribution of remarks to him in the matter.
The report had claimed the Minister as saying that the President
has decided to step down from the post of COAS.
Mr.
Memon said what he had instead stated was that the President has
already given up the position of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff
Committee and that he (the President) will hand over the responsibilities
of the Chief Executive to the newly elected prime minister, in the
wake of the next month's general elections.
The President, he said will relinquish the post of COAS when he
appoints a new COAS. There is, however, no timeframe laid for such
a decision.
It may be recalled that in the orders for extension of COAS made
earlier, it was clearly stated that the President will continue
to hold this office till the appointment of a new COAS.
