Los Angeles Times says SA Tribune is a "Crusading Newspaper"

ISLAMABAD: "Some of the stolen goods have been recovered, we have identified the thief and full recovery will soon be made," is how a "paindoo" MNA from heart of Punjab described the first session of the NA in typical police jargon. It also showed why the NA was so full of excitement and another oath-ceremony in the next building was like a funeral.

ISLAMABAD: Are the secret agencies of General Musharraf ready to violate the sanctity of the elected Parliament on its very first day after swearing in? It seems so as SA Tribune has learnt that secret cameras have been placed to monitor whether turncoats are loyal, even after receiving payments.

Special SAT Report

ISLAMABAD: As she pushed herself on the center-stage as a possible candidate for Prime Ministership, Musharraf's hand picked beauty from Balochistan, Minister Zobaida Jalal, was quietly enjoying millions of dollars she had managed to receive from USAID for her own NGO. SA Tribune digs into her murky affairs.

ISLAMABAD: While many politicians are serving long jail terms for misusing their authority, telephones and cars, ex-Senate Chairman Waseem Sajjad has been let off by General Musharraf, because he likes him and wants him to be Senate Chairman again, a trusted Establishment guy. Huh!

The poor, powerless consumers of power, electric power, have to pay ever-increasing rates no matter if the company they are paying is making huge profits or running into losses. This report gives all the documents to show how mismanagement is causing costs to rise which are quietly and without any qualms, passed on to the consumers, who have to pay, through their nose at times.

Has anyone counted how many Pakistani officials and diplomats, civilian and in uniform, refused to return to Pakistan after completing their posting in US? A quick count popped up embarrassing numbers. SA Tribune decided to get a full count with all the names and how these people are doing now.

The present Government claims it has nothing to do with corporate and business corruption. Yet senior most officials have been directly involved in the corruption that was rampant in the past. SA Tribune brings the story of one such high official who gave the sugar lobby much more than it demanded, but at what price to the tax payers.

Car manufacturing in Pakistan is a certified fraud. Influential groups, with the right links and connections, have obtained car making licenses under the garb of manufacturing. In fact these companies provide a big cover for imports, which are otherwise banned. Now these greedy car makers have been joined by the military government to rip the people off their money. A huge scandal in the making.

Time to Repair the Dirty Image

Dear Readers:

The Express Train called ‘Parliament’ is partially back on the rails, if without an engine so far. Still this is a step forward to end the stifling military rule which started off with a refreshing odor but lately started to stink like any garbage dump. The General who was so popular even though he had committed an act of treason and overthrown an elected government, was last week scampering to save his skin under legal verbiage, hounded by the feeling of insecurity. He may feel secure but he looked like a hunted prey at his Nth oath-taking ceremony as President of Pakistan.

The hand picked team of so called honest experts and Reconstruction gurus, who started off as if they will change the shape and destiny of the nation, ended up stealing from the till, sleeping with thieves and thugs and playing dirty tricks like any other crook well known in town. The disappointment has been enormous and genuinely so. If the military regime had to end up with legalizing and authorizing horse-trading, it can’t be called any type of revolution.

We are now back to the civilian version of tomfoolery and it is a more adulterated version. Yet there is hope that from the ashes of this experiment of the “Reconstruction Era” politicians will rise to improve upon their past and repair their image and conduct. For the Press and Media, we hope a better atmosphere will emerge. We have no battles to fight with politicians, until they go off the track.

Happy Ride,
Shaheen Sehbai
